From our childhood there were some basic things we could count on, that one plus one is two, that touching a hot stove would be painful, and that it wasn’t any fun to get separated from your parents in a big store. As we got older things got more complicated -math added letters to the mix, there were more things that could burn us then just a hot stove and being separated from those we love became even more painful. It’s tempting in this life to think that “If I just do the right thing and make all the best choices that life will turn out fine.” You live long enough you know that is not true. Just look at Job – he was a man who truly made our Heavenly Father proud, but he was still made to suffer and wait for God to show up. He was tempted by those around him to lose heart. I think about Job when I am in a holding pattern of waiting to hear from God. It can be hard to “fix” our eyes on Jesus when we would like a relationship to be restored (TODAY), when financial challenges need to be covered (TODAY) and any of life’s other problems need to be fixed (TODAY). We get so uncomfortable in the hurt and in the not knowing that we forget what God has promised- He told us that in this life we WILL have troubles BUT we are to take heart because He has over come anything that the world can dish out. It doesn’t mean we can’t be human and say things like “God, I don’t like this or understand this.” Or “God this really hurts! I want it fixed now.” I believe God can handle it when we can’t seem to get ourselves to that “sweet, by and by” place down the road. More than false emotion I think God wants us to be in that honest place and that is where He can shape us if we allow Him. We know we become stronger and wiser in TRUSTING Him that gives us strength the next thing life throws at us.

According to a new report 63% of women say calling yourself a "housewife" is a negative thing. What do you think? Here's a few comments:

Debbie says - No way!! I'm proud to be a "housewife"... I get to take care of my family the way God intended me to and I love it!!

Maria - Being a " housewife " isn't a bad thing . Nor is it a bad word . It's all the over dramatic media portraying it so negatively . Being a housewife is a blessing . God blesses every one of them .

Amber's comment - I like to call myself a "domestic engineer" lol. sounds better than housewife.

April 28th is my step-dad's birthday. This is a photo from several years back with my mom.

Each year when I try to do the math to figure out how old he is, I have to think back to his birth year - but now I can just do the math from the year he'll turn 100. (2013) ... So Happy 97th Birthday Junius!

Hard for me to imagine being that old (it's easier for Kim) ... All of the things he has seen - all of the changes ... I love and appreciate my step-dad, he came into our family when I was 11 - My parents met through a bowling league. He and I used to bowl on an adult/kid bowling league called A.A.K.C. (Adult Aggravation, Kid Confusion).

One cool piece of very unique 'step-dad' trivia I share with my wife is - Both Sheryl and I share the same middle name as our step-dads ... My middle name is Alexander - so is Junius' (So is my son's). Sheryl and her step-dad both have Lynn as their middle name. It's almost as if Someone knew we would be family one day. :)

Great fun on the show this morning ... Based on this report - Listening to just 15 seconds of upbeat music can change your perception of the people around you. British researchers played volunteers short clips of cheerful music and then had them rate the mood of faces in photos. Almost instantaneously, the music changed the volunteers' perceptions of what they saw in the pictures, and faces that were previously judged as emotionless became happy. We asked the question - "If you could play a song for someone before they met you - What would it be?"

Oh Boy!!!!

Not sure if you’ve heard the news but this month Russell and I found out at our doctor’s appt. that we are having a BOY!!!!!! Yeah!!!! Raising two beautiful girls was a wonderful adventure and now after years of prayers for God to bless my life with another child He’s given us a boy!!! Watching my daughters go from one end of childhood to the other I am already praying that God would give Russell and I wisdom with this new little one. I am also trying to anticipate what this little boy will be like. Will he like the color green; will he think bugs are cool, will one of his favorite things to do is have his mother read to him? Hee I hope so!! Just thinking about it fills my heart with joy and wonder! God is so awesome! He already knows the answers to all those questions. What a wonderful God to entrust this little one to Russell and me. We pray that this little boy would one day come to know Jesus and follow Him all the days of his life. Now……if we could only figure out what his name will be!!! Thanks for your prayers. We are now half way to this baby boy’s birth day.

Titanic Remembered

Today is the 98th anniversary of the Titanic hitting an iceberg, before midnight on April 14th. In the early hours of April 15th the once mighty ship was at the bottom of the Atlantic. Where was God in that tragedy? He was with the 706 people that survived. Today was a powerful morning of your "Titanic" stories - "Icebergs" that hit you but didn't sink you thanks to God's help.

Here's one story we received via email ...

Dear Doug & Kim - You talked about a Titanic event, an event of survival. An event in my life immediately came to mind. Five years ago after having my youngest son I went through postpartum depression. At first it showed itself in an anxiety disorder,but 8 months later I found myself lying awake in my bed contemplating suicide. I thought to myself, while everyone slept, if I were to do it how would I do it. "Slit my wrists? No, that never works. Overdose on pills? Yeah, maybe". Then a voice said to me "No! This isn't normal. This isn't okay. You need to go to the doctor". I totally believe that voice was God. He was my lifeboat to safety. After that point I did go to the doctor and, even though I still have the anxiety, it is controlled. My biggest obstacle was dealing with the label of mental illness. I finally understood that our brains, which control our thought processes, are physical to this world the same as our bodies. My issues center around my hormones which can wreak havoc on your thought processes. Many women still struggle with this after having children and/or going through menopause. Don't be afraid to go to the doctor and get help and let God be your lifeboat.

Have you seen the new show on CBS - "Undercover Boss"? The idea is that the top dog at a big company goes undercover. While he works along side those lower on the ladder than he, it's a chance to learn about and improve his company and (sometimes) his employee's lives. I've seen most of the episodes and I have to say - I really like this show! It's another reminder that we all need to see each other as people. At the end of the episode, the workers get to see the CEO as a person, not some unknown rich guy that makes decisions they might not like. By the same token, the top dog gets down and dirty with the real people that keep his company working (and the real stories behind them). I'll admit it - I usually shed a tear or two by the time the show is over.

Our challenge today? To see each other as people, not as obstacles, not as things that stand it our way. We need to see others as Christ sees them - Dear, sweet, kind people that He made and loves and that we need to love in return.

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to surprise Doug or me, but my good friend Stephanie pulled it off this morning as this beautiful cookie bouquet was the first thing I saw at my desk this morning. I can’t begin to tell you how special it made be feel to receive this beautiful gift at the announcement of our baby on the way!! I really wish I could hand you one of these cookies to you through your computer scene! They smell wonderful! They look beautiful and they taste like heaven!!! Stephanie runs a great shop! Somebody please pinch me! God has blessed our family with the most wonderful gift of a beautiful baby on the way. Our sweet arrival is due the first of Sept. The past three months have been spent dealing with morning sickness and combating fear. Our miscarriage over a year ago weighed heavy on our hearts as we soaked in the thought of this beautiful news. God knows our needs and speaks to us through His word, The Holy Spirit and those around us who love Him and He used all three to bring peace to our hearts. Russell and I know that it’s all in His hands and no matter what…..no matter what…HE IS FAITHFUL!!!! The funny part about all of this is in many ways Russell and I are starting over as all of our children are off in college. We had a chance to check out Baby’s R Us and quickly realized that a lot has changed in 19 years!! Ha ha Thanks for all your prayers as we thank God for this great blessing and trust Him in the journey!

Haiti. We can’t say that name right now without images of hurting people and toppled buildings coming up in our minds. It’s hard to find the beauty with so many suffering. Over the past few days, however, beauty has shown up in the recovery of an 8 year old and a 10 year old who are alive but had spent a whole week barred under rubble that came from the first quake. Beauty has also come with help from many organizations and individuals around the world bringing food, supplies, and their talents. It’s tempting sometimes when things like this happen, to think that God isn’t there but clearly He is! He bids us all to come join Him and be a part of the healing – not just for the Haitians, but for the healing and growth of our own hearts.

Waiting for a plane

A very unlikely thing happened the other day at the Newark Airport. No, I am not talking about the security breach that happened when a man walked back through the exit area- I am talking about what happened just a short time later. Josh Wilson, one of the artists we play during the morning show, was at that Newark airport waiting to change planes to head to India on a mission trip. Josh along with hundreds of other passengers endured a lockdown and dealing with flight delays. My favorite Christmas toy

Talking with Kim about her fun with the Barbie airplane got me thinking about two toys from my childhood ... A Talking View Master & the Shrunken Head Kit w/Vincent Price on the cover.

I loved my talking View Master and even remember a few bits of information I learned about the great wonders of the world ... We looked on Ebay and found that there are still some for sale. Did you ever have one? ... Also LOVED the Shrunken Head kit ... When I think back on being a little kid and Christmas I remember my parents allowing me to go through toy catalogs and circle the things I would like. I remember my Mother saying, “Now Kim, you know you won’t get all the things you circle, just a few things.” I laugh when I think about that as both my Mom and Dad spoiled my brother’s and me ROTTEN!!!!! Let’s just say MOST of what I circled was unwrapped on Christmas morning. One of my favorite toys from childhood was a Barbie Airplane. It was so cool. When you folded it up it looked like a suit case and when you unfolded it, it was half of an airplane. There was a refreshment cart. To my knowledge air-masks did not drop from the compartment above and I can’t remember if it had and exit isle but I will tell you I played with that toy and “flew” to exciting destinations until the poor thing had to be thrown away. When I think of all that joy and how short my childhood really was – it make me want to buy a toy for every kid on the planet!!! Wait a minute….Samaritans purse can help us take care of that!!! It’s not too late.

I think, for most of us, we have this picture of what a perfect Christmas looks like. I am a big fan of a beautiful warm fire going in the fire place, snow falling, my Grandfather’s voice reading the Christmas story from the book of Luke, the smell of wonderful food floating through the air, candles lit, and the joy that only good friends and family can bring. While that is ONE way to see Christmas, I am reminded that the reason Jesus came was for the WHOLE world to know and love Him- and then for each part of the world to celebrate His birth in their own unique way. #4 - Being a couch potato. Staying in one place for long periods of time can sap your energy

(FIGHT IT) - by moving around! Stretch, Walk, GET up and move for a few minutes

#5 - Sleep Inconsistency. Not keeping to a regular SEVEN day-a-week sleep schedule

(FIGHT IT) - by being more consistent - Watch staying up late on Friday and Saturday and then sleeping in on Saturday & Sunday (Toughest one for us - since we get up at 3 am during the week - We CRAVE that Saturday sleep in!)

#6 - Mild Dehydration. Lack of fluid = feeling lethargic

(FIGHT IT) - by drinking more water. (Not the cokes and tea) but WATER!

One of the hardest things about doing the morning show is LACK OF SLEEP zzzzzzz.

This week we are going to be offering you some tips that we found and hopefully they can help you - and us! Today we shared the first three items on the list "12 Surprising Things that are making you TIRED!"

#1 - Boredom! Your body reads the routine - as boring - and boring = tired!

(FIGHT IT) with some FUN!! Like the old saying goes "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" - Schedule time to goof off, have fun, joke around

#2 - Lack of Light! Your body needs sunlight - we spent too much time "in the dark"! Lack of light= tired!

(FIGHT IT) with some outdoor time! Get outside on break - get near some real natural light

#3 - Improper Breathing. Research says we all breath shallowly - lack of oxygen in the blood = tired!

(FIGHT IT) with "Belly-Breathing" - Deep in and out breaths (No just when your co-host is pushing your buttons!) - but ALWAYS ...

The Red Road

This past week Doug and I had the privilege of joining our good friend Charles Robinson who leads the “The Red Road” ministry along with a host of others for an evening of Native American culture. It was awesome!!! Food, music, dance, and speakers made for a wonderful night full of learning.

I wanted to share with you some of what we learned and what the Red Road Ministry is all about. To Native Americans, The Red Road is a term used frequently which means to live a traditional lifestyle: drug and alcohol free, respect for others, respect for yourself, respect for creation and to worship the Creator. Every Native American tribe has a name for Creator in their own language. It is interesting how many of these names are very similar and how they speak to the nature and character of the Creator. Also most of the translations of names greatly parallel the names and character of God in the Judeo/Christian Bible. With this in mind, The Red Road is also devoted to the teaching of God's love for Native Americans by showing how He was at work in North American long before the arrival of the Europeans. Armed with that knowledge, The Red Road wants to see First Nations people (regardless of their "degree of Indian blood") rise up on reservations, in First Nations communities, throughout North America and around the world to share the love of Jesus with everyone within their sphere of influence! Jesus said that if we want to follow him, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23). To this end, The Red Road also represents the blood-stained road that led Jesus to the cross.

One of my favorite songs these days is NeedToBreath’s- Lay ‘Em Down. It stirs up in my mind a group of railroad workers from days gone by working hard with their sledge hammers nailing down each rail road tie. I think that is how we look to God sometimes – working so hard to deal with our problems –just swinging away at it. He wants so badly for us to cry out to Him for help! In our own strength we are not strong enough to carry the weight of these burdens- only God can deal with it, BUT we have to lay it down!!

He loves and supports me so well and allows me to do the same for him. We are a great match for helping each other walk through the hard times and celebrate the good times. Looking back over the year it’s hard to believe some of the heartache we have had to walk through, especially miscarrying in January. God has strengthened us as a couple and has shown us over and over again that He is for us!!! Happy Anniversary my sweet husband!! Hand in hand walking out God’s plan!! You are my North!!

If you have listened to Your Family Friendly Morning Show long enough, you know that I am a big fan of FALL!!!! It’s one of my favorite times of the year. Most of my family celebrates their Birthday this time of year and I can remember some very fun excursions to celebrate. We would take rides to see the beauty and color of the leaves changing and on our way; we would stop off at this wonderful apple orchard that had apples the size of grapefruit! It was fabulous!!! My favorite thing to do with some of those apples was wrap them in these flat pieces of caramel and make caramel apples!! Another thing I love to do during this season, is hide in a big pile of leaves and then jump out and scare someone who wasn’t quite expecting me to be there. Hee hee I know, I am a mess, but this whole season turns me into a little kid. Feel that crisp air? Wrap yourself up in a warm blanket and take in this beautiful change of season!

Snail Mail!!! What a Treasure!!!!

The most peculiar and wonderful thing happened to me two weeks ago. I got a hand written letter mailed to me from a friend I had not talked with in years. With all our e-mailing, texting, facebooking and twittering, the letter felt more like a gift. Not the norm. This person thought of me, picked out lovely stationary, picked up a pen and crafted a heartwarming collection of thoughts and words – for ME! Now at the risk of sounding “old school” I have to say I miss hand written letters. (Now here would be the point where Doug would insert a cute remark like – “Letters? Oh yes you told me about those when you came over in the wagon. How you used a quill pen made from the turkey your family ate last Thanksgiving.” Nice Douglas!! Not everyone has an I-Phone) Don’t get me wrong I love being able to talk with friends who are serving as Missionaries half way around the world through the drop of an e-mail. I also know it means so much to military families who get to e-mail their soldiers daily. It’s just that having that little piece of parchment that began in the hand of this dear one is now in your hands. Okay, so I’m a romantic, but I treasure cards and letter’s my family and friends have sent me over the years. When I went off to college I remember times when I was in great need of clean clothes but out of quarters and I would go check my campus mail box and there would be a card with a little cash tucked inside from my grandmother. How could she have known? More than helping me towards clean laundry she wrote words that gave me courage and reminded me God had his hands on me. It was a simple act of love, but it meant the world to me. How easy it would be to make another persons day. I guess I will head off to the post office and get a book of stamps.

My daughter Lauren is now - E N G A G E D!! (Like - "to be married") ... Seems like only yesterday she was my little "Lu-Lu" and we were playing "Saddlerack Barbies" - and now - "Here comes the bride."

Just in case you didn’t hear the story, last week I broke my ring finger and had to have my wedding rings cut off. I will say this was my fault, but it has been fun teasing my Hubby. Last week we were working on our front lawn. I was watering and Russell was using the weed eater. I had the sprayer in my right hand and the hose some how got wrapped around my left hand. (You can see where this story is going.  ) Something inside me said “spray your husband”, so I did. In his attempt to get me back, he reached for the hose and pulled hard and when he did it broke my finger. Russell has felt so bad about it. It wasn’t his fault at all, it was just a moment of fun that got out of hand. It was much like one of those moments from your childhood when your Mom said, “Alright, settle down, one of you is going to get hurt.” Right now I have to wear a brace for four weeks. No typing for a week. (I have hen pecked this blog hee hee) One thing is for sure, you don’t realize how important a certain part of your body is until it’s out of commission. Much like the body of Christ….we all play an important part!!! Oh and I pick up my rings today from the jeweler….no charge….thanks Steve Murray Jewelers!! This first week has been good - and Sheryl and I are praising God for that. We feel he's pretty much "out of the woods" as far as the illness is concerned but we are definitely making changes in our diet that will be a benefit for the whole family. Garic Update

Before I head off for a restful weekend I wanted to share with you all an update on Doug's son Garic from Doug's wife Sheryl.

Dear family and friends,

Well it’s been a slow and steady week for Garic. I know it was the best decision for him to stay home and miss the trip even though it was very disappointing. It’s been a week of doctor appts and each day he seems to be getting a little better. He has been walking our whole neighborhood now! (Considering he couldn’t even walk to the corner with out extreme nausea and fatigue). He still has nausea but it is less. I think we have the constipation issue solved (praise God!). Whew! It’s been a tough 7 wks! However, God has been faithful and each day Garic seems stronger and healthier.

We went to registration night at his new school last pm. He met his new teachers and got a general feel of what to expect the first day. They are all aware of the situation and I am praying he makes it Monday.

Thank you so much for your prayers and I ask that you continue to pray until he is 100% over this. Its still one day at a time. One moment at a time.

We are grateful for your prayers and cards! Knowing others are praying make all of us feel good and the cards have blessed Garic so much! THANK YOU!!!!

Wow!!! What a fantastic week!!! Monday we caught up with Mike Nawrocki and Larry the Cucumber - don't forget Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella is now out on DVD.

Yesterday we spent time with a group who has been together for 18 years- (and they still like each other. hee hee) Phillips Craig and Dean!!!! Each pastor a church and manage to write the most amazing songs. I am so grateful they chose to join us on the same day their new project "Fearless" hit the streets!!! You are going to love every song. I played it over and over in my car yesterday.

This mornings highlight was catching up with the very beautiful MANDISA!!! We highlighted many of her songs from her latest project "Freedom!" I will tell you there is never a time I am around that precious friend that I do not come away from our visit blessed!!!

Garic Update

Thank you, thank you so much for all the prayers, emails and concern over my son. We have sought out many doctors, tests and other things to get to the bottom of this 5+ week problem. We know that God will heal him fully and we are learning alot about changes we can make to improve his (and our families) health and well being. Garic is doing much better - but he's not out of the woods yet. Today we had two doctor appointments - Tomorrow, one more.

Please pray for wisdom regarding our trip to California. I'm flying out this Sunday for a week to see my mom and for my cousin's wedding. I'm prayerful that Garic will join me on this trip, as we have planned. (This is his last week of summer vacation before school starts on the 10th). Summer is too short!

The summer has moved along so quickly! It always seems to me to be the shortest season of the year and depending on where you live – it is. For me in this season of life there has been a lot of change….some good and some not so good- A beautiful wedding, a miscarriage, a move to another part of the city, and becoming an empty-nester. (Much sooner than I wanted to- I think most parents can relate to that.) It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that we are not moving through tough seasons of life as fast as we would like. On the other hand, much like summer, when those great seasons come they don’t last as long as we would like. Leaves of change are almost certain to be just around the corner. To quote Amy Grant, “When life is good, drink it in, because seasons change. When life is hard, hold on tight, it won’t last long, because seasons change!”

In case you missed it this past week – in our attempt to be cool and back announce Paul Colman’s song “Run”, we tried our hand at an Australian accent. (as Paul Colman is from the Land Down Under) Doug got a bit carried away and ended up calling Paul’s girls “Blokes.” The next day Paul gave us a good lesson in Australian slang. It turns out Blokes mean men. It would be far better to call his daughters “Sheila’s.” Clearly we are not quite ready to head to Australia just yet. And so I thought we’d take a gander at some Australian slang so as not to come off as a few Kangaroos loose in the top paddock. Ha ha Enjoy!!

Keep Praying

Monday marks one month since my son first got sick. It's been a tough 30 days. The doctors started him on a second antibiotic on Friday. They think they saw some more giardia in the endoscopy. For my wife, who has been battling panic attacks, the news felt like a heavy burden was lifted. Today, several days into the new medicine, not so much. Garic is still battling with the nausea, some stomach pain and at times it seems like we haven't moved forward at all. However - other times during the day he does wonderful. Today we sang the song "Healer" in church and we hold onto that with a tight grip. The song says "I believe You're my healer, I believe You are all I need, I believe You're my portion, I believe You're more than enough for me. Jesus You're all I need. Feeling God's love through others

Today Garic had his endoscopy - before the procedure my wife was a bit nervous about everything - but then came the nurses. 3 separate nurses sought us out because they listen to the morning show. They told Garic that they had been praying for him and would continue to do so. They let him know that he was in very good hands. We were all greatly encouraged by their words and prayers. Other staff members AND THE DOC WHO DID THE PROCEDURE! were also listeners and very supportive and encouraging. Their love and support brought my wife to tears. It was another great reminder that GOD is THERE - Always ...

The doctor said the endoscopy didn't reveal anything abnormal - they will run some tests on the samples they also took ... We got 4 photos from the inside of our son - He thought it was 'cool' that we post one here (This is a picture of the inside of Garic's stomach)

God IS in control

For everyone that called and emailed today - THANK YOU! Today we celebrated the healing power of God related to our children. I needed to hear your encouraging stories of how God has brought you and your family through trying times. Such awesome stories, such great encouragement to everyone that is walking through a rough road right now.

Garic's problems started the Saturday morning before Father's Day ... Two quick bites into breakfast and he was feeling awful ... The nausea and diarrhea followed - and have stayed ever since. We've been to Vanderbilt E-R - twice, with countless blood & stool tests - a CT scan and tomorrow we go into for a endoscopy. At first the docs said he has "giardia" - a parasite you can get from the water. He was in and around the Harpeth River during a school day camp recently, so that made sense. After the week of antibiotics - it hasn't gone away.

Thank you for your prayers, your concern and thank God for blessing me through your support and encouragement. I'll keep ya posted. (( This picture of Garic is from a recent Nashville Sounds baseball game)

Don't Run From It!!!!

Recently in the news we have heard of those who have lost their life – Michael Jackson, Steve McNair, Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMann. For me it is always a big reminder that we are not promised tomorrow. Our life is so fragile and our Heavenly Father holds it in the palm of His hand. It also makes me think about those close to me who have already gone on to be with the Lord. My Dad , my grand-parents and many friends – how I miss them. But it’s only for a short time.

Are you like me? Does life get you so boxed in that you lose sight of the fact that this earthly life isn’t the end? The best is yet to be!! I want to encourage us all to use these opportunities of talking with others about those who have died in our pop culture as a spring board to talk about our eternal life in Christ. God opens so many doors for us to be the hands and feet to this world. Let’s go for it with all our heart…..because this isn’t the end!!!!

6 Year Anniversary

Hard to believe - but June 16th marked the 6th Anniversary of "Your Family-Friendly Morning Show - Doug & Kim" ... WOW! That's 42 dog years :) Kim and I have actually been working together longer than that. The original show was "Doug, Don and Kim" - when Don left - it was just DK ... Thank you so much for the encouraging phone calls and emails! Some of you have been on this journey with us the whole time, others are just getting to know us.

Do know that we are truly blessed to be able to do what we do. Despite the 3 am alarm clock, we know that God has gifted us and blessed us and we are very grateful for the platform we have. We try to bring the best show possible to you each morning. Each morning before we talk to you, we talk to God - asking for His blessing and guidance and close each work day with another meeting with Dad. Rudi just self-published his first book, it's Christian fiction - He calls it "Jesus meets James Bond" ... Should be interesting.

Some of the sweetest childhood memories I have took place in the summer. One of my favorite things we did as a family, was take trips to our family cabin. There were always great adventures to be had. My brother’s and I learned how to fish. I remember watching my Dad fly-fish and thinking how he made it look so easy and beautiful. (Never did quite learn how to fish that way.) My Grandmother would take me on nature walks where she and I would pick wild flowers and place them in a vase when we got back to the cabin. During those walks she had a precious way of pointing me to our Heavenly Father –the Creator of all my eyes were taking in. I remember one of those walks where we came across a patch of wild raspberries- ripened by the sun, nothing tasted so sweet. In the afternoons, I remember sitting on the covered porch playing Yahtzee, listening to the rain hit the tin roof and watching it come down in sheets. When the rain stopped you could count on that sweet smell and my Grand-Dad asking any of us if we wanted to join him for another trip back to the lake to try and catch our perfect rainbow trout. Not too long ago I was visiting New Mexico and Russell took me back to that Old Cabin. Someone else owns it now. It still looked the same, but I realized very quickly you can never go back to those moments in time. I will treasure those times and they are great reminders to me to make the most of each moment THIS SUMMER!!

Please don't let me blink or the tears I shed at his recent 4th grade graduation will only seem like yesterday when gets his High School diploma. As We Forgive

The life changing power of forgiveness is the topic of a new movie. Directed by Laura Waters Hinson "As We Forgive" follows Rosaria and Chantale, two Rwandan women who come face-to-face with the men who slaughtered their families and attempted to murder them during the 1994 genocide. An estimated one million Rwandans were killed and nearly a million widows and orphans were left in the genocide’s wake. This is a very powerful movie that both Kim and I have had a chance to preview. This film speaks about the powerful freedom one can find in forgiveness.

For those in the Nashville area there is a special showing of the film tonight - May 21st at Belcourt Theater (7:30pm $6 cost) with proceeds going to the Living Bricks Foundation, a non-profit organization that partners with Prison Fellowship to help repentant genocide perpetrators build housing for their victims' families ... Also there will be a showing tomorrow (Friday, May 22nd) at Harpeth Community Church in Franklin (6:30pm) ...

It's about time

I have to tell you I am normally not a girl who watches a lot of TV, but this past year my husband Russell and I got caught up in the “Biggest Loser.” This season had it all- the oldest, the youngest, heaviest guy and heaviest gal. It was so inspiring to watch these people make the commitment and lose the weight. Now granted when you go on this show, ALL you do is work-out and watch your diet. They don’t have to worry about paying bills and taking care of their families. Who wouldn’t lose weight in that environment? But for the rest of us it’s a little tougher to manage or is it? The truth is we keep appointments and commitments to people everyday and now it’s time to turn that around and keep a commitment to ourselves- for me that means- I have got to lose weight and get healthy. It’s going to be tough but I am ready!!!! I just completed my first week and I have lost 6lb.!!! Wooohooo!! I can’t wait to see what God will reveal to me as I get this body healthy and fit. Please keep me in your prayers. I will continue to keep you up dated on my progress.

We survived the walk!

For the last 17 years at Moore Elementary, 4th graders - as a 'rite of passage' out of elementary school head out on a 28 mile walk along the trails of the Natchez Trace. This year was Garic's turn - and being the supportive parents we are - we walked with him. Walk being a relative term, we also slid, fell and sloshed out way through the muddiest "walk" on record. 28 mile 'hike' is a better term. Or even 28 mile Quest for Survival. (I would so be voted off the island)

Trail? What it's washed out? That won't stop Mr Parks - he'll make his own trail.

Looking back on one of the toughest things we have done - physically - in a long long time - my attitude now is - "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" - and since no kids, or parents, died on the walk - We are very very strong :)

This picture is Garic in front of the final destination - Jackson Falls. We did it! We made it! and we are very thankful that Garic does not have a younger sibling. (One 4th grade 'walk' is enough for us)

YES! God Does Answer Prayer

Thanks so much for all the calls and emails today in support of the National Day of Prayer. We were greatly encouraged by every ones testimonies. We celebrated a lot of supernatural healings - One lady shared that the healing of her mom even make the doctor mad. ("What! This goes against all the stuff I studied!") We know who the master Physician is! Be encouraged that God is listening and does hear our prayers. He will answer - in His timing, not ours. While you wait, stand on my favorite verses - Philippians 4:6-7 - "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Will “someone” please get negative out of the way?! I can’t see.

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to go down the slippery slope of negativity? So many things pull us down – the economy, strained relationships, political views, and the guy that cut us off in traffic. Think or listen to that too long and suddenly we all begin to sport a scowl, instead of a smile. Now I am not suggesting we all break out the rose colored glasses, but I do believe that being negative can become a habit.

I caught myself the other day once again allowing negativity to get in my way. Russell and I were looking for a new place to live and as you know a lot of packing and organizing go into making sure it is a smooth transition. Long story short we were running out of time finding a new place to live and I found myself listing off all the things we still needed to do. Before I knew it that list had snow balled into all the things that had gone wrong this past year in my life. Send out the surrender flag and peel me off the floor- I was a mess.

You may have heard this phase before but I believe it’s always worth a good repeat- especially when we are trying to break out of negativity- “don’t continue to do the same thing and expect a different out come.” Continuing to be negative never breaks us out of our pit. I believe with all my heart that our focus has to change to God and those around us. Did you catch that? We have to make the choice to turn our focus. The place that is hard to go when you are trying to break this nagging habit of being negative is being THANKFUL. Focusing on those things that are right in our life – God has given us another day to breath, we have food on our table and people in our lives who truly love us. More then that we have a God that makes sure the birds have enough to eat……HOW MUCH MORE HE CARES FOR US!!!!
